Is a Career in Information Systems for You?

In today's business world, financial planners, business policy makers, market researchers, and managers need as much timely information as possible in order to stay competitive. The information systems curriculum is designed to prepare students to design, analyze, and implement computer-aided information processing systems. Career possibilities with an information systems major include computer programmer-analyst, data center manager and computer consultant. A computer programmer-analyst plans and develops computerized systems for business applications and improves computer systems currently being used. A data center manager is responsible for operating the computer center. A computer consultant performs a number of tasks including analysis of hardware and software requirements and design of applications.

According to a recent national College Placement Council salary survey, bachelor's degree graduates in information systems start at an average salary of $28,000. This is a national average and our area may be slightly lower. Salaries differ based on the type of business.

A high national demand for information systems personnel is expected for the next 5-10 years.
